Outer East Metro Region

Region Overview

Cricket Victoria has regionalised both the administration and elite pathway programs into 16 regions based on Local Government Boundaries. The Outer East Metro Region (OEMR) consists of each club, school, community groups and residents within the municipal boundaries of Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges. The OEMR has three major associations, these are the Ringwood & District Cricket Association (RDCA), Yarra Valley Cricket Association (YVCA) and the Ferntree Gully & District Cricket Association (FTGDCA). The Eastern Cricket Association has 2 Clubs that are aligned to the region, these are Boronia CC and Heathmont CC.

Based on season 2006/07 the Outer East Region consisted of:
  • 70 Cricket Clubs
  • 175 Schools
  • 42 Milo Have A Go Programs, 1600+ participants
  • 4 senior VWCA Clubs
  • 68 Masters Clubs, 1020 participants
  • 2 aligned Premier Clubs, Ringwood CC & Hawthorn Monash University CC.
  • 30 Primary Schools participated in the Grade 5 & 6 Kanga 8’s competition
  • 10 Secondary Schools participated in the Super 8’s competition
  • 75 paid umpires
Major Pathway Achievements:
  • Under 15 State Champions 2001/02
  • Under 18 State Champions 2003/04
Regional Cricket Council

The RCC has office bearer positions consisting of Director to the VMCU, Chairman of the Council, Secretary / Treasurer. Candidates must be from Associations that are affiliated with the VMCU. The VCCL affiliated Associations are grouped as Associate members of the Region where they can hold office positions with VCCL Region 8 (refer to Appendix A. for Region Structure).

The Council positions are:

  • Mr David Beatty, Chairman / Director to VMCU
  • Mr Glenn Wilson, Junior Rep Team Co-Ordinator RDCA
  • Mr Bryan Williams, Junior Section Chairman  YVCA
  • Mr Murray Wilson, Junior President, FTGDCA
  • Mr Rob Elliott, Regional Cricket Manager

The OEMR has a broad vision to provide cricket for all members of the community without favour for all ages, genders, ethnic and special needs groups. Striving to increase awareness of cricket in the community including the elite Victorian Cricket Pathway Programs or the Community Cricket developments such as Grants, Volunteer retention, Local Government relations, the model community club or building the strategic club.

The RCC role is to steer the Region according to community demands and in the best interests of Cricket Victoria. Cricket Victoria’s focus for 2006/07 involves assisting club participants to service the game at the grass roots level. Through supporting these club volunteers the objective is to retain these people and develop a community culture of belonging!
